I feel like that pic makes me look so thin. :-)
My hair's lightened up some on the ends.
Tomoka's Twists. If you do a search you will find people that wear them much better than I do. I do love them. I've been telling myself I need to make another order, haven't bought any new ones in awhile.
My three year old daughter took this pic. She didn't do half bad. My personal photographer in the making.
One of my favorite locks.
Another one of my favorites. This one used to be two locks, and you can't tell anymore by looking, although I can tell by feel.
A lock that used to be two. I tried to knot it, don't really like how that part turned out.
A two-headed dragon -- one lock towards the root, two at the end.
Random thoughts:
RIP MJ. It's weird, because I only bought one of his albums (HIStory), and never saw him in concert, but I can't stop thinking about him now. I was so shocked when my husband told me he'd died. I thought he was joking.
No, I am not a Rasta. But "Rastafari!!!" and "Guidance" anyway.
Yes, I do my own hair. Thanks, but no thanks, I don't want to go to your recommended beautician. You do realize that came out like a diss, right?
Yes, I locked my hair without twisting it. Why is that so hard to believe?
Miss talking with you, girlie. Hope everything's going well for you. (Como me gusta your style -- "Little Freaky Girl", Concha Buika)
No hablo español con fluidez ahora, pero estoy mejorando cada día. Un día hablaré en forma fluida.
I really want more piercings. Trying to contain myself. Just an ear cartilage shouldn't be too bad, should it? That's pretty tame.
I'm so lazy, I really need to start cooking regularly. Junk food vegetarian is not healthy. And my body's feeling it.
I'm really just at peace with my hair. I'm comfortable with it. It doesn't stress me out. I like how it looks. I don't take too much time with it.

Your hair does look great!
Thanks, Thandi.
off-topic: I like your blog. I visit on occasion. You remind me of my sister for some reason. She's an SDA also, and has 3 boys, a 4 yr and 3 yr old twins. I used to be an SDA, and was a SAHM for 2 years (not nearly enough time), so maybe there's familiarity there also.
...Salutations sista!!
Just googled free form dreads to find reasons why I needed to go and have mine twisted...Bumping into your blog has been a wonderful eye opener...I'm tidying up an MSc in Advanced Software Engineering at a very good uni in London...Career destination at this point is IT consultancy...I have free-formed for about 18months...started as an afro with attitude and morphed into a hybrid of an afro, locks and frizz...it complemented my non conformist views perfectly but I am sadly starting to think it may jeopardise my chances of securing work even though it hasn't so far...I'm African born and raised in the motherland, so I'm not trying to find myself in that way. I have tremendous respect for 'fari ideologies but remain open minded...okay this is becoming a bit of a mini thesis but just needed to commend you for putting it all in perspective...I will definitely return for more advice...You've so made my day...
With warmest regards from rainy London,
C!!
Hello, Consciousness!
So funny, I went to school for a Masters in Software Engineer. I'm here in New York state working as a software engineer doing security testing. I'm not sure how it is in London, if you're going to stay there, but here in the states, as an IT consultant, you definitely shouldn't have any problems with your hair. Get it twisted if you really want, but don't feel like you HAVE to do it.
Anyway, glad I could be an "eye opener", not sure what I did but glad I did. :-) Chat with you later.
Greetings Ms. Aybee!!
Sweet! knowing we have similar academic backgrounds...Not sure where my future career would take me yet...Yeah! In retrospect I think I used a poor choice of words; re:eye opener...I was slightly overwhelmed with emotions at the fact that someone else shared my point of view(very few do that) and had similar experiences...I would like to leave it i.e. my hair to do it's own thing but whilst I have more locks infront, I still have some clumps of afro hair at the back...Yours definitely has more definition...How was this achieved...read through from your first post and noticed a period when the sudden transformation occurred...did you get a loctician to nice it up?
All usual commendations apply,
C!!
No locticians. I think I'm allergic to them. Just kidding a little, but I really don't like going to get my hair done.
Actually, the back of my hair is what locked first, and it locked pretty easily. The top of my hair is softer, so that area is the part for me that was taking longer to lock. I actually latched some of my hair in the front during the first year out of impatience. About 10 or so locks. So if I didn't do that, I suppose it's possible that I'd still have some hair still in afro. I'm not advocating that you do that, I'm just letting you know what I did.
Your hair sounds so cool! Perfectly you. :-) I just want to encourage you to keep your way of doing things. I really think that you're heading in the way you want to go. Of course, if you decide that you want to twist or go to a loctician, that's okay too.
Take care,
Angela
Also, I just wanted to add that it can definitely take up to 2+ years for your hair to lock, with any method. My sister has locks that are maybe 21 months old (I don't know how she started them, but she latches to maintain), and she says that she feels like she could comb them out.
...Yes! Ms. Angela!! Many many thanks for your insightful words...Have a similar relationship with "hair shops"...guess it has got to do with communicating the desire for a not overly pruned look(conflicts with their natural disposition)...last visit to a loctician 2 and a bit years ago cost £80 circa $130 and I had to pay £40 the very next day to have the droopy mess taken off...Guess a bit more patience is required to have my entire head of hair lock up...the "older dreads" I've met also share your view-patience...The ultimate dream is not to have no one touch me hair and have it blossom into it's destined earthy look...Going to look up "latching"...sounds like it involves a crochet hook :)
...We remain full of kind regards,
C!!
Hello CONSCIOUSNESS!
Oh, I definitely wasn't recommending latching, just letting you know what I did. I wanted to latch because I knew it wouldn't come apart on my hair, and I wanted to do it one time and be done with it. I did have some misgivings right after I did it because it seems that the latched portion was smaller and tighter compared with the roots of the rest of my locks. Not as full. I also don't like that I didn't have the patience to stick it out and just see how those parts of my hair developed.
At any rate, if you want to learn more about latching, there are discussions at http://www.nappturality.com/forum , and here is one link explaining how to latch.
http://www.geocities.com/lrobinsonstone/hair/latch_instruct.jpg . You can latch with a tool, but I used my fingers.
Take care,
Angela
Hi Angela! *Smiles-Hugs* ;)
I have not updated my blog {yet} but mom is doing much better.

So glad your mom is doing better!
You're looking good. *hugs* I like the curls.
See, I have been stuck in the matrix so long. I apologize for not stopping by. I sincerely appreciate you! Your hair is doing so great living as locks. Mine is taking its dear time, sorta like me with blogging. Take care and I'll be back sooner!
No problem Carmen. I don't expect anything from you. I just love mentioning your Tomoka's Twists. I love them. I got the last ties, and I think I'm going to start wearing those more. I love them!
Take care.
These latest photos that really show your roots and frizz are my FAVORITE.
Yam
Thanks Yam. I should show my roots and frizz close up more often, I don't think people usually get the sense of how my hair really is from most of my pics.
Hi! yeah i know i'm responding to an older post but i had to let you know that i giggled a little at the junk food veggie statement cuz that's what i'm coming off of...giggled b/c i dropped 60lbs after i transitioned almost 4 years ago and ppl (non vegheads) are baffled that i gained it all back being veggie...anyway, i had my hair twisted near 2 mos ago with no intentions on locking it and then a few weeks later i decided to let it go and see what it does and now i realized that i decided to lock it without 'deciding' to lock it...that make sense? haha anyway, i hate going to a hairdresser (except when i started going to a barber after i wacked off 13 of the 15 inches of tight curls) but i think i hate it b/c it's unnecessarily expensive...i've been a hairdresser and feel 'it don't take all dat!' ANYWAY...i'm rambling...your hair looks great, never heard of free form dreads before (and i'm in Atlanta?)...i have fine and thin hair so maybe it wouldn't have been good for me to try...
Hello peace_love_ASL
LOL. No problem responding to an older post, I still see it. :-) Don't mind the rambling either, I do it quite a bit myself. :-/
Yeah, it's definitely not hard, I think that pretty much anybody can start and maintain their own dreads. I did start freeform, but I'm not anymore, I've latched lately. Anyway, good luck with your hair.
