Contemplating ...

For maybe a month or two I've been really wanting to take out my locks. This is why:
  • My hair always gets in my way (e.g. during certain "activities")
  • I want to do cornrows, and because I started my hair by just washing, I don't have nice parts.
  • I miss my afro.

Why I haven't done it yet:
  • My hair is long enough to flip it. I flip it all around when I do pole dancing or floor work.
  • I took out two locks. Each lock took around 1 hour to remove, and the resulting hair was only around 6 inches long. Talk about shocking. Why is this? My hair was 10-12 inches when I started my locks.
  • I am not adept at styling my hair. I want cornrows, but to do them neatly like I would want them would take forever. And I am allergic to hair stylists.
  • I miss my afro, but I do not miss the time taking care of it entails.

I am really low maintenance. I think this is the real reason I haven't done anything. Maybe I just need to style my hair again. Or try cornrows with my locks. Something exciting that looks good.

I've been there. I took them out and after untangling my loose hair in the shower, I wanted my locks back. As far as the cornrows, you can still do them without having perfect parts. Just put the lock in question with the cornrow you're working with if you think that row is smaller or put it with the next one.

If you do take them out, you can start over again!

Greetings Angela! As one who has cut off/ripped-out 8yrs of locks which took me 3 weeks to do, all I can tell you is to THINK IT THROUGH B 4 U CUT!
IA w/Carmennc about the cornrows.
After wearing my afro for a few weeks, I wanted my locks back, and now I am in the patient process of doing just that for the next 3,4,5 years!
Take Care

Hey lady. Haven't seen / heard from you in forever. I need to visit your blog, I haven't been reading blogs as much lately. Anyway, I think I will try cornrows and see how they turn out.

@ QueenLi

Yes, I know I will probably regret it, so I'm trying not to do it (cut / remove). Plus I have to do my daughter's hair as well, and I don't even want to do that half the time. I will think it through, lol.

hey pretty woman ;-)

2 key sentences..."i'm really low maintenance" and "i miss my fro but not the time it takes"

ive heard this sentiment before, then when they cut and start dealing with loose hair again they remember how much work it is

if you decide to try the (dread) cornrows please post pics for me to drool over

and as for it getting in the way during "activities," is it really that much of a hassle that you'd consider getting rid of them altogether? can't you just tie them back? or, better yet, incorporate them? *insert devious grin*

Hey lady *waving*. How's it going? Your response made me laugh. I guess I posted this to be talked off the ledge, so to speak. You're right, I don't think I'd really feel like doing the things I imagine to my hair.

As far as the other thing, yes, it's very annoying to me. Yes, you're right that I could work around it. I guess I'm just complaining.
